A limited-edition sculptural light inspired by Emirati gatherings, hand-shaped from discarded palm branches to blend memory with materiality.
Lamah is a sculptural lighting piece inspired by the meaning of its name: to gather. In our Emirati lamah, we come together to share stories and moments. One such story sparked this design—my great aunt and her cousin in Shindagha, one of Dubai’s oldest neighborhoods, gathering tools from their surroundings: a mother’s sheila and their bare hands, running toward the creek to play. The spontaneity of that moment, the joy of discovery, and the curiosity of the unknown shaped the spirit of this piece.
The design began with a found material. A discarded palm tree branch, collected from a quiet roadside in a residential neighborhood, revealed unexpected beauty in its curvature, weight, and texture. It evoked the softness of a sheila submerged in water. That moment marked the shift from observation to intention, from waste to resource. The branch became the foundation for a design rooted in cultural memory and material sensitivity.
The intent behind Lamah is to let the natural form guide the piece. The palm branch bends and folds with gravity, creating movement and softness. Human involvement is minimal—shaped by hand, without force. Light filters gently through the form, casting ambient warmth and subtle shadows.
Functioning as a pendant light, Lamah suits both residential and commercial interiors. It is ideal for clients who value material honesty, regional context, and objects with embedded narrative. Designers, interior firms, and procurement teams seeking pieces that balance storytelling with spatial design will find Lamah adaptable yet distinctive. It completes a space while grounding it in context and meaning.
