Oculus is a lighting piece inspired by the abaya; a traditional symbol of modesty and privacy, often seen as simple, but powerful in how it offers women the choice of visibility. When off, the piece appears opaque, black and mysterious. Once lit, it reveals a hidden layer of black and colourful chiffon underneath. The light is dimmable, allowing the user to control how much of that inner world is revealed, echoing the same sense of privacy and agency the abaya offers.

The lighting incorporates discarded fabric offcuts from Madinat Zayed’s local tailors in Abu Dhabi, connecting sustainability with the city’s rich tailoring heritage. The chiffon panels are stitched and layered together to create a rich lighting effect.

Oculus is designed for both residential interiors and high-end hospitality settings, it brings quiet drama and a warm atmosphere to the space.
